Fun Poinsettia's!

 Fun Poinsettia's!

Isn't this a super fun runner for the Holiday's!

We've got a free tutorial to share with you on how to make this simple "Fun Poinsettia" block, using the Quick Curve Ruler.

Click here, to view and download your free pdf "Fun Poinsettia" block.

20 1/2" x 20 1/2"

I made 3 blocks and put them together to make a runner, but I think a whole bunch of these would make a fabulous quilt.  You could do up one for a darling pillow too!

I wanted to make my poinsettia's to match my kitchen.  Helen is making hers in more traditional holiday colors.  They really take on a different look and I love the spinning petals created with this block!

So if you are in need of a fun little holiday treat for yourself or need to make up a last minute gift for someone, than this is a perfect quilt project for you!  Fun, fast and best of all....super easy!!

We've started a Fun Poinsettia Flickr Group for those of you that want to share your Poinsettia's with us and each other!  We would love to see what you come up with!

Have fun and occasionally we'll check in to see how your "Fun Poinsettia's" are coming along!

This is it...my last customer quilt!

Oh this is so hard for me.  Here it is....my last customer quilt.

Becky's Urban Nine Patch was a gem to quilt up!  I love everything about this quilt....the design...the colors...the layout.

Like I said, this is my last customer quilt.  I've got so many emotions going through me right now.

Check out the feathers for this quilt!  They worked perfectly and even if you may not be into feathers....you can't tell me they don't look fantastic on this quilt!

I went back and forth as to what design to do for the open white area in Becky's quilt and after a good night sleep, settled on my feather/swirl all over design.  I didn't feel it needed more that that because the scalloped border is fantastic enough!!

This quilt took me about 14 hours to quilt up.  A lot of stitching in the ditch but very worth it!

I love how the little white square looks like an art deco tile.

I may just ask Becky for this one back for Market someday.  It's so beautiful!  Becky's piecing was phenomenal!

...and just in case you were wondering, my quilting posts will not end here.  I've got plenty of my own creations to quilt up!

My Professional Lonarm Quilting Business has been an amazing experience, some good and some not so good.  I've had lot's and lot's of experiences good and bad that have happened along the way.  I've met some amazing quilters and have developed priceless friendships.  They've taught me so much and I'm so grateful for them.  I love how longarm quilting has pushed me to be creative beyond anything I could have ever imagined.  I love what's to come and have been truly blessed with my career path.  I hope that I can in some way or another use my longarm quilting skills to teach and inspire others somehow, someday and probably at another time.

Okay...so I guess this is it!

Look out for "Curves Ahead"!!

Registration opened today and Helen and I will be teaching along with a trunk show and demo of all our quilts!!

If you've never been to Heber, Utah, it is a beautiful place to visit! Especially during the summer.  Helen lived there for years and me and my family would go stay with them for a couple of weeks each year.  I'm really excited to visit again!

Monumental Moment!

This is my last customer quilt and a very "Monumental Moment" for me.

It's been a year since I officially decided to not take in anymore customer quilts....was I good at saying no?  No.  Is it easier for me now?  No.  I don't think it will ever be easy.  I worked so hard to build up my customer base and never thought I would ever turn anyone away.  But, my career path has changed and is heading in a different direction and it feels really good!

This beautiful Urban Nine Patch quilt is Becky's!  She's been a huge Quick Curve Ruler supporter!  This is one of many quilts she has made using the Quick Curve Ruler.

I will admit, I had a really difficult time yesterday deciding how to quilt this up.  I found out she loved feathers and so that helped...but I was really stumped otherwise.  I think because I love this quilt so much it was a bit intimidating as to what to quilt on it and I didn't want to do something I wouldn't be happy with.

After a good night sleep I woke up this morning with a plan and really like it so far!

Urban Nine Patch Quilt

Stephanie's Urban Nine Patch quilt is all done!!  A lot quilting on this little beauty!

I love the overall feel of how this quilt turned out!

I tried to keep the quilting more on the feminine side....some frills, flowers and lace edges did the trick.

Stephanie used a linen for the background fabric.  The quilting around the blocks sort of remind me of a knitted blanket.

I used Sew Fine for the thread and switched thread color for each block, matching the block the best I could....for instance, for the gray and aqua block above, I used and aqua colored thread both in the aqua and gray fabric.  For all the white and linen I used an off white thread.

I used double batting (warm and white).

There is a pattern available for this quilt here.  Stephanie did up her blocks on point which is different than the pattern layout.  Basically you would need to follow the instruction on how to assemble a block than put them on point and configure the background fabric yourself.

Stephanie has waited a LONG time for this quilt and I'm so happy to have it done for her!

I won!!

I'm super excited, I won for my Medallion Quilt in the Blogger's Quilt Festival!  I won in the Professionally Quilted category.

I sort of feel guilty....but than again my quilt is professionally quilted and that is what I do.  I won a $50 gift certificate to Fat Quarter shop!!  Woo woo!!

Thanks so much Amy for putting this on once again!  It was fun looking at all the beautiful quilts!

Urban Nine Patch Quilt

First off, I wanted to thank everyone for your nice comments on Sharon's quilt.  I finally folded it up to get ready to ship out tomorrow.  It's going to be hard letting it go!

I've started quilting this super fun Urban Nine Patch quilt.

...and in case you're wondering why I chose the quilting designs I chose.  Stephanie@peasinapod, the owner of this fun quilt, themed her colors around some super fun fabric.  She was hoping I could do some quilting that would also be inspired by this fabric.

She did mention she wanted it quilted similar to how I originally quilted mine up....so I had a good base to start with.

I also wanted to put a shout out to anyone living in the Phoenix area.  My sister Helen is going to be demoing the Quick Curve Ruler tomorrow morning from 10-12 at the Quilters Ranch in Tempe!!

Twirling Fans Quilt

My absolute favorite thing to do after I've finished up a quilt is to lay it out on the floor, adjust the blinds so the light shines on the quilt to cast shadows and then admire and take pics of the quilt.  Unfortunately my camera broke, so I'm using an i pod to take the pictures...anyway, here is Sharon's beautiful quilt!

As I mentioned before this is Sharon's design and it's called Twirling Fans.  You can find out more information about this pattern here.

I really enjoyed coming up with a secondary design on the background fabric.  I wasn't sure about the feathers but now I can see the whole quilt...I'm really happy I did them!

Normally I like to play it safe on customer quilts and wouldn't have done 12 different background fills but it seamed fitting for this quilt and I love it!

I tried some new quilting fillers.  The two above were new to me and ended up being my favorite.

...and some more

I kept the border quilting simple by doing some piano keys.  I tend to do piano keys a lot on borders with printed fabrics.  They always look great!

Only two more customer quilts left to do and they are both Urban Nine Patch quilts.  I'm really excited to start on them and to show progress on them!!

Ty cooperated today and took a long nap!  Good quilting day today!

Twirling Fans

The quilting is coming along for this super fun quilt.

I decided to do some other fillers around the Twirling Fans.  There are 12 fan blocks and I would love to do 12 different background fillers...problem is I don't know that many.  I think??

...and in the fun diamond shape created, I've decided to add a fun feather motif.

I wanted to answer a couple of questions for you about this quilt.

This is another fantastic design by Sharon@ Fabrics & Flowers.  You can find out more information about this "Free" pattern here

Now about prairie points.  Yes, I did stitch the prairie points down.  That is what Sharon wanted and frankly I was happy about that!  Although they are fantastic and give a great 3 dimensional look to the quilt....they are a bugger to work with, that is if they are left alone and not stitched down.   They are beautifully in the way all the time and love to catch the quilting foot as it passes by....and that go's for any sort of 3 dimensional nick nack's that may be on a quilt....buttons, the flappy 1/4" binding, beads...and so on.

Okay...again I was ecstatic when Sharon said to stitch the prairie points down!!

Back at it!

Finished Sharon's Quilt!

I couldn't wait to share these pictures with you!  Sharon's quilt turned out sooo amazing!

Did I mention before how I love the texture on this quilt!

The colors and fabrics are so much fun!

I used double warm and white batting and medium gray thread through out the whole quilt.

Ty likes it too!

I'm going to put together a little video this weekend on how I quilted this quilt using some arc rulers, thanks for your interest in that!!

Sharon@fabricsandflowers designed this beautiful quilt and many of you have asked about this pattern and if it's available.  You can find out more information about this pattern here

Stay tuned for the video, coming soon!
