Modern designs for CLASSIC QUILTS

GIVEAWAY IS OVER, THANKS!

Today, I have the privilege to share with you a new quilt book by Andie and Kelly called "Modern designs for CLASSIC QUILTS"!

Love...love....love...this book!  Everything about it, from content....to photography....to techniques....to picture tutorials...and of course the fantastic quilts and quilt patterns!!

I've known Andie through blogging before her book writing journey.  Her blog was one of the first I followed and I liked it because she is a very real in her writing.   Well.... apparently Andie likes my longarm quilting skills and asked if I would quilt a couple of quilts for a "project" she was working on....a project that had to do with a future book!  No pressure for me, none what so ever!  Ha!  ;o)

This spider web quilt is called "Effie's Web".

..and it's a beauty!  I loved quilting it up!

This New York Beauty quilt is called "Midtown Girl".

I really love how this one turned out!

These are only a couple of many awesome quilts in Andie and Kelly's book and to celebrate with them I'm having a book GIVEAWAY!!

Anyone is welcome to enter the giveaway and staying on the theme of Classic Quilts....Answer this question for the Giveaway:  What "Curved" classic quilt or block would you like to see done Modern and easier the Quick Curve Ruler way?

Have fun and good luck!

The Giveaway will end tomorrow night.

~Jenny~

How about a drunkards path! Love the traditional patterns so I'm sure you can do something wonderful with them.

Kathy Schwartz said...

I love the classic curved "Winding Ways" block. It usually involves templates so if there was a way to make it with your ruler I would be great!

Unknown said...

Can we try Dresden Plate? I love how you think outside the box.

Geta Grama said...

Fabulous quilting on those quilts.
Double wedding ring - it's time to make one!

drunkard's path needs a modern update!

Марина Сохончук said...

oh... that's interesting question ... ) How about the Drunkard's Path?

Kathy said...

I agree - Drunkard's Path. I've never made one, but would like to try an easier method than cutting with templates by hand.

The book looks great - thanks for the giveaway chance!

JaneRH said...

I've would like to see an oak leaf and reel made with you templates--old-fashioned pattern that could be very interesting with modern fabrics and techniques. Thanks for the giveaway!

I think the centre block of an Irish Chain could nicely be done with the curved ruler.

Lisa England said...

I don't really know a block that hasn't been suggested as I don't really do much with curves. I sure would like to have this book though.

mtnquiltr said...

I'm ready to do a Dresden plate, but I'm scared of the curves!

I love the pickle dish block. Thanks for participating in the tour.

Cindy said...

I love making the Winding Ways block. Would be interesting to see what you'd come up with that block design updated with your ruler. :)

I LOVE how you quilted that New York Beauty quilt!

All suggested sound great! The book looks great too

Lynn said...

Double Wedding Ring is my first choice, but I know you already have that one in the works. Second choice is a pieced Orange Peel block. I love this block but I will never make an entire quilt with it since the traditional method requires applique.

Becky said...

I was thinking Pickledish too. How about a Lemoyne star?

Becky said...

How about Chinese Lanterns? I just bought your ruler and 2 patterns at a craft fair yesterday and am looking forward to learning a new technique!

I am waiting for the double wedding ring pattern. So exciting!

Deb said...

My daughter is working on a double wedding ring quilt now and hand-quilting it. So I'd pick to do that one with a modern twist.

CapitolaQuilter said...

Storm at Sea is on my to do list and I think the curved nature of the quilt pattern might lend nicely to the QCR.

Swedish Scrapper said...

Pi kledish? Drunkard's path? I know others have already suggested these, bit they are what I'd like to see too! Thanks for the chance to win this wishlist book!

Yikes! That question is a toughie cuz I haven't been quilting all that long. Any curvey quilt would be great for me. The only curvey quilts I can think of right now are Drunkard's Path and New York Beauty...

Bear's Paw. I thing that would look fantastic with the Quick Curve Ruler

I think Pam's idea of a Spiderweb would be perfect. I also wonder if you could do something New York Beauty-ish?

I LOVE all of the details in how you quilted the Midtown Girl quilt. Just perfect.

Julie in GA said...

A modern Dresden would be fun. Thanks for the sweet giveaway!

Anne / Springleaf Studios said...

I've been wanting to do an Orange Peel quilt for some time now. The quilting for the book is fantastic.

Sue said...

I think storm at sea has a lot of possibilities with the ruler. Not stictly a curved block, but was that look. Also winding ways!

Unknown said...

Drunkard's Path was my very first quilt back in 1976. Who knew curves weren't for beginners! I would love to make it over with a simpler method than tracing around cardboard 1,000 times!

Jackie M said...

What about the winding way quilt pattern?

Cindy Sews said...

I would like to see a Dresden block done up in this easier manner!

Dina said...

I've been loving the star quilts I've seen, especially the wonky ones. How about some curved up stars? Thanks for the chance to win the book!

Teresa Silva said...

I think double wedding ring would be so neat! What incredible quilting you did on these quilts. Just absolutely amazing! Congratulations, Jenny!

Mary Marcotte said...

What a great idea, Jenny! Thanks for the chance. How about an orange peel block, or drunkard's path, maybe double wedding ring. Can you see my problem? I'm going to behave and go with wedding ring, but trust me, it's NOT an easy choice!

I'm with the others that would LOVE to see a DWR pattern using your Curve tool! I've had fabric to make my daughter and SIL one for their wedding for 4 years now. Maybe I could actually get one done by their 5th anniversary!

Marcy said...

The Monkey Wrench would look marvelous curved!

I would love to see a modern basket block that's really different. I am making a quilt for a friend and have chosen to use traditional and contrast with modern blocks but would love more ideas. Thanks for the opportunity to win a great book.

Unknown said...

Ah, you know that I've already suggested Storm at Sea - but how about a twist on a NYB segment?

SasNi said...

The NYB is so great, I love it.
I would like to see the double wedding ring as a pattern and the traditional block I love most is 54-40 or fight, how about that on in a curved way?

Thank you for the opportunity to win the book described above. I'd be thrilled with any of the previously mentioned classic quilt patterns. On my 'to-do' list is a DWR quilt so I'm most intrigued with your efforts in that direction. Love your blog!

Barbara O. said...

I'd love to see the Double Wedding Ring. I'm so intrigued by the pattern, but I can't muster the courage to start a DWR quilt.

Nancy said...

Jenny, your quilting on that New York Beauty is out of this world! I'm not entering the giveaway--I already have the book. I just wanted you to know that I think your quilting is amazing. Great work!

SewLindaAnn said...

You got me looking in the book by Maggie Malone, "5500 Quilt Block Designs" with your question. Block no. 3498 Ferris Wheel, Block no. 3535 Grist Mill and block 3550 Carolina Favorite and 3599 Pointed Ovals are just a few I'd love to try. I wonder too, if there's a way to interpret Snails Trail with your ruler.

FiberOfAllSorts said...

Lovely quilts as always. I don't know a ton of traditional stars. There is a set for each state and it would be interesting to see if those could be curved-up.

These quilts are stunning! Thanks for the opportunity to win this book.

I'm very new to quilting, but I think I have to echo those who have piped up in favor of the wedding ring quilt. Even before I was interested in quilting, I've wanted to make one (and I love the new "single girl" version as well).

Chris said...

I want to do so many curved quilt blocks - double wedding ring, drunkard's path, dresden plate, and pickle dish! They're all gorgeous, but tough to execute.
