Mod Olives is Finished!

Finished my Mod Olives quilt!

I had fun coming up with 24 different feather designs for each block!

I'm happy with my feathers for the most part.  Some were kind of weird...like the bottom left one in the picture above.  Looks like toes.

Half way through the quilt I thought of a great quilting design for the print diamonds and had to do one out of curiosity.  It's the bottom left block in the picture above.

My favorite feather is the top left one in the picture above.  Love that one!

I really like the quilting in the background diamonds.  It helped give consistency to this quilt.  This quilt is quilted a little to busy for my liking but it was fun coming up with a bunch of feathers and hopefully I was able to give some of you some feather quilting ideas.  I of course can't take credit for all these feathers.  I have been inspired by some of them through some very talented quilters over the  past 7 years.

I always love looking at the before and after quilting pictures.

I like the black and white binding.  It helped the quilt feel grounded to me.

Hope you all are finishing up your Mod Olives quilt tops.  Looking forward to seeing them all!

~Jenny~

TOES?!!! You crack me up! And I agree with all the others about the quilting. Just looking at the pieced top, I felt "meh." Then once you've quilted it, I am finally beginning to realize that the quilts that blow me away with custom quilting are the same ones that underwhelm me as a flimsy (love that name). I personally make the mistake (over and over and OVER AGAIN) of using too many prints and patterns and leaving no open spaces for elaborate quilting. Then when I do try to put some special quilting effort in, it all gets lost in the busy prints. Note to self: BUY MORE SOLID FABRICS!!

Seriously, I love this quilt. They are like gorgeous Faberge Easter eggs, each one unique. And that one you're weirded out about does not look like toes to anyone except you! :-)

Love this so much. I am behind on my blocks but hope to catch up. Then I will try to quilt it with something on my home machine but I know it won't be looking like that....Love it!

It turned out just beautiful. Love all of the quilting ideas, too. Thanks for sharing. I wish I could have joined this QAL, I was too busy getting ready for a quilt show in Monroe, WA.

I have never seen such gorgeous quilting in my life!!! You are an artist. If I could just do a feather, I would think I'd "arrived" in the fmq world. ha. I think when I get to heaven, I'll have a big long arm waiting, and just go to town quilting just like you!!!

I love this quilt so much I had to come back and look at it again -- and now I have a question. How do you choose thread for a project like this? It looks like you used white thread in the white background and color-matched thread in the solid outer olives, but what color thread did you use for the print centers? I have a hard time choosing thread that complements busy prints without distracting, and whatever you're doing looks great.

even my blocks would look good with that beautiful quilting!!!

I had to wait to see how yours turned out before I could start mine. I really liked the individual blocks but couldn't wrap my head around how they'd look all together on a finished quilt. Yours is absolutely SPECTACULAR! Love your fabric/color choices and of course your quilting. It turned out very, very well. Thanks for continuing to come up with useful, dramatic blocks for your QCR.

Very pretty quilt but the quilting is over the top lovely! Great to see so many variations of feathers! It's a wonderful "exercise" and so beautifully executed!

Turned out very very nice! Love the variety but common quilting on this. Maybe I'll get back on my attempt at the top before too much longer!

Jenny, This is incredible! I am not sure how you whip these up so quickly, LOL! I am, however, extremely glad I dropped in to see your blog this morning. It worked! I am extremely motivated to head down now to continue my Urban 9 Patch!

The mod olives is adorable. I am such a huge fan! And I loved reading about your favorite parts and the wacky toes.
