Homemade Honey Vanilla and Peppermint Ice Cream!

One of our favorite deserts, especially during the summer is homemade ice cream!  People tell me I make the best homemade ice cream and I must agree that it is pretty dang good!

Let me go back a couple of years ago.  My favorite ice cream EVER was Haagen Dazs's Honey Bee Vanilla, that is until they stopped making it.  ;o(  It was one of the saddest days in my life when I went to the grocery store to satisfy my Honey Bee craving and it was no where to be found!  I of course panicked and e-mailed Haagen Dazs right away and got the sad reply they are no longer making it, something to do with the shortage of honey right now.

Okay...present day.  Number one request from the kids and family is my peppermint ice cream!  I tweaked the original recipe a few times and finally came up with just the right proportions to make a yummy and creamy peppermint ice cream.....so I thought I would use this same recipe to come up with my longing and craving "honey bee" ice cream....oh how I've missed my "honey bee"!!

This is my 2nd time making it and it's sooo yummy and as close as I can get it to Haagen Dazs's Honey Bee!

I thought I would share with you the recipe for both my Homemade Honey Vanilla and Peppermint ice cream.

Homemade Honey Vanilla Ice Cream:    (4 Quart)

2 1/2 cups milk (2%)
2 cups sugar
1 t. salt
4 cups half/half
4 cups heavy whipping cream
1 1/2 t. vanilla
1 1/2 cups honey

Scald milk - remove from heat.  Add sugar, honey and salt (stir until dissolved).  Stir in other ingredients.  Freeze as per ice cream maker's instructions.  Enjoy!

Homemade Peppermint Ice Cream:   (4 Quart)

2 1/2 cups milk (2%)
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 t. salt
4 cups half/half
4 cups heavy whipping cream
1 1/2 t. vanilla
2 cups crushed peppermint candies

Scald milk - remove from heat.  Add sugar and salt (stir until dissolved).  Stir in other ingredients.  Freeze as per ice cream maker's instructions.  Enjoy!

Your ice cream recipes sound scrumptious! You mention a traditional 4 quart ice cream maker. Could you please share what this would be. I don't have an ice cream maker. Brand, or model number appreciated. Thanks
