DWR ~ Decisions

It seems there is always something I am indecisive about when working on a quilt project.

I'm really loving how the yellow and gray curves are turning out.  Now I have to decide on my triangle corners.  I need two contrasting colors.  White is not an option because that is the background fabric for the rings.  I've narrowed it down to two different options.

The obvious choice would be yellow and gray.

The gray is a nice warm gray and the yellow (if I go for yellow) I'm not sure is the right shade of yellow....this is a maybe?

...and then there is this option

A light taupe or khaki and a darker gray.  The previous gray did not give me enough contrast next to the taupe.  This option seems kind of boring....but it wouldn't distract from the great yellows in the rings.  I'm a little worried the first option, with the yellow may be to distracting...and will I only see yellow triangles if going with that choice?

....decisions, decisions...and that is why we all love to quilt!  I think we love the challenge and love when we hit  a road block like this, I do!

...and just because

My sweet little Ty, taking a nap.  There's nothing more peaceful than watching a baby sleep. ;o)

Awww, little snug bug...shouldn't you be sleeping too mama? I really like what you got going with the yellow/gray, not too excited over the taupe/gray, but your absolutely right about choosing colors that aren't going to overpower the arcs....design wall time!

Beautiful baby! I'm amazed that you're already back in sewing room with the new born. You go girl!

I really love the gray personally. The first yellow is definitely brighter than the curves pieces.

Can't wait to see what you decide.

Would aqua be too competitive?

hmmm. that's really a tough call. But my vote is for the grays. Just so that the yellows stand out more.

Love the khaki and darker gray - they make the fabrics in the arcs look better (to me anyway!).

: )

I could never tire of seeing pictures of your Ty - what a sweetheart! You always amaze me with amazing fabric choices too, so I am sure what you decide will be incredible!

Hmm, how about the khaki and yellow? How adorable is your wee man? Priceless x

Little Ty is so sweet! Glad you are all doing well... I think that quilt needs a little turquoise or maybe lime green... but that's just me!

I almost think I would tend to go ultra darker on the whole, and let those gray and yellow rings *pop*.

Ex: like using the yellow you have showing as the interior negative for the small opening (where the rings overlap), but using a richer, darker gray (smokier) for the largest background (negative space).

OR -

Lighter gray (as the one pictured) for the overlap areas and darker (smokier) for the larger negative space. Quilt it in a rich, lemony yellow thread!

What about a two shades of gray...the khaki and white may compete with each other. Ty is a keeper:)

So, for me, the choice would be navy blue - just love navy with yellow and with gray and then a very soft pink - almost peach. I think you need to pop your yellow and gray and that navy would really do that......I'm a beginner and usually wrong about everything but that's my first thoughts!

Your little one is so adorable. Is there a way to do a mock up layout with the choices? I'm liking the taupe grey combo - whatever will support the arches and let them shine. Can't wait to see what you decide.

I think you need to go shopping for a golder-toned yellow and use the first option gray :)

Your little guy is just so stinkin' adorable! I am more than a little jealous you have that beautiful face to coddle every day! My boys are 21 and 19 - I know someday I'll have grandbabies, I just hope they end up living close so I can spoil them rotten often! :)

I like your gray option! You're onto something here...

what about black and gray...there is a hint of black is some of your gray fabrics. if not...i like the yellow (but you may have to find a golder tone) and gray.

what an adorable boy! It makes me think back to when I liked my boys (now teenagers...feel my pain).

I'm not excited by the gray, I would go with a yellow that has more gold in it. Just a thought!

taking naps is for everyone. I still remember the peaceful snuffles of a sleeping baby. Do we every forget that sort of stuff, I don't think so..

Ty is just so cute. Oh, I miss the smell of a new baby. My first thought was a darker gray. If you don't like that, what about introducing a little pop of color that is a complimentary color, like a bluish purple...or maybe an analogous color like a green? Black would also be interesting, but it would be a completely different quilt with pops of black....

I would go for the obvious here to support the effect of the rings: yellow and gray. Not this yellow however, but a more golden-toned one. For a different kind of quilt I worked in yellow, gray and black and I love the combination. Since there is no black at all in your rings I'm not sure the choice of black would be the best you could make here. It might be interesting as a border, if you were to add one.
