Quilting ~ Thoughts??

I woke up early to work on my "Urban Nine Patch" quilt and while quilting away I was thinking about a lot of things, that's what I do when I'm quilting repetitive lines and designs over and over and over and over!

While thinking and thinking....I came up with an idea or a thought and was hoping to get some suggestions from my favorite advice friends.

When I started this blog, I really wanted to separate it completely from longarm quilting.   At the time I was very burned out with longarm quilting and wanted to keep the posts on this blog all about me and my own quilting, piecing and designs.  So much of what I do, I guess you could say half of what I do when it comes to quilting is longarm quilting on my quilts.

I have cut back on quilting for customers but will always have one of my own quilts to quilt up.  I love coming up with a new design and love piecing, but I also love the quilting process.

....so this is where I could use some thoughts or advice.  I've had many ask about my quilting and how and where and how and where....questions.  What if I do one post a week on quilting or longarm quilting?  It may be anything from how to come up with a quilting design for a quilt....or what tools to use....or when to use straight lines versus feathers....or really anything.  I'm not saying I'm an expert, but I have learned a few things since starting longarm quilting and love to help and give advice anyway I can, after all this is a part of who I am as a quilter.

....so there you have it!  What do you think?

P.S.

Are you in the holiday mood yet?  ;o)

  2. I'd love for you to do that! I don't have a long-arm...yet, but I would love to hear more about your process!

  3. I would appreciate it very much. I have only been following you a short time, and have only been machine quilting for a year, so I will look forward to any and all tips!

  4. I think it is important to be exposed to as many techniques as possible. It helps gain insight on what looks good on what. Quilting makes the quilt, but if it is the 'wrong' quilting, does it un-make the quilt? I love to see what other people do. I get inspired and awestruck. Whatever is easiest for you is fine with me.

  8. Jenny, I enjoy seeing how you quilt your customer's quilts. I always get good ideas for quilting my own quilts -- and you remind me why I DON'T "quilt for money!"

  9. I would LOVE that. I have recently bought a long arm but I am only confident using digital patterns. I am not very artistic. I am, however, in awe of the work that you do. Maybe your posts would take some of the mystery away.

  15. Hellz ya! I have no idea how to use a longarm, but I would be interested to know how the process goes! Also, I have heard you mention a time or two about how great a particular customer has pieced, and how some longarmers wont quilt a quilt that isn't nicely pieced. Would love to know more on that subject.

  16. That would be amazing! Your quilting is so inspiring, anything you have to saw on the subject would be great.

  18. Yippee! Yay! I was really hoping you'd do something like this! And as far as your readers are concerned, you ARE an expert at this.....that's why we hang on your every word, and study every pic you show of your quilts! They are always so beautiful, and the quilting has precision and is well thought out! Yep.....we would love some lessons from you!

  19. Go for it girl
One thing I would suggest though is to try and advise on how something could be done on a domestic machine as well as a long arm ....

  20. I have been long arm quilting now for only a year and found your blog about six months ago. I have been enjoying watching you design and quilt. It would be a great help to see what tools you use and how to use them. Also input on how you decide what quilt pattern to use where on a quilt would be enlightening. I love your blog now, more info and discussions would make it that much better.

  25. I think what makes the quilt blog community such a wonderful place to visit is that we share and learn so much from each other. So absolutely share your quilting tips and ideas here but I don't think you have to make it a 'once a week" commitment, take that pressure off and just surprise us with random posts of quilty goodness :)
Does this mean you are going to stop posting on your other blog and combine them here?
