Challenge Day 5

It's day 5 of my 31 Day Challenge and I'm happy to say I did not get any customer quilting done!  Since starting my Longarm Quilting Business, I made the decision to take Sunday's off and sometimes it's just what I need.

I did want to take a minute, for those of you that don't know the longarm quilting side of me and tell you a little bit about it.

I quilt with a Gammill Classic.  It's a 2001 model and therefor is non-stitch regulated.  We bought it used and I've had it for about 5 years.  It's very simple, no bling, bling's and no computer.  I do everything freehand, unless I'm following a pantograph from behind the machine.  I took a few classes when I started quilting and admire many, many longarm quilters.  They were and still are my inspiration!

I usually don't plan ahead for a quilting idea on a quilt.  Most the time, the first time I see the quilt, is when I load it on the machine.    I just start quilting with no plan in mind and hope I will be inspired as I go.  Usually it works out and sometimes it doesn't.

I love quilting and I think a quilt isn't complete until it is quilted and that's pretty much my story.

I did have some piecing fun today.  Sunday is the one day I might post a piecing project and this little project is for a certain someone.  I'm hoping once she sees this she'll know it's for her.  I hope to quilt it next Sunday and put it all together, so I can ship it out!

This is the making's of another Quick Curve Ruler bag.  It really is simple to do up.  All you need is the Urban Pod's Pattern.  Just follow the cutting and squaring up instructions with one exception and this is to leave an extra 1/4" on the outside curve pieces to allow for seam allowance and wa..la!!  A fun little Urban Pod's Bag.

I hope to do a pattern up for it soon!

Tomorrow, back to quilting!

  3. That is great that you take a day off. My husband and I own a business as well and have always tried to take Sunday off but most of the time it never works out. Which is the same story for most business owners. I am glad you just do it, that is a good inspiration for us.

Also glad you are getting caught up on all the quilts. One day I will get caught up on my UFO's as well. But I am off to a Quilt Shop Bus Trip this weekend so I will just have to buy more for future projects instead :)

  4. Sunday's off are great!
How much of your quilting area do you actually use? The classic is 26"? so you probably have about 20" of quilting space. Do you quilt that whole area? Or is that too much space and your arms get tired from quilting towards the back?

  5. I had no idea your machine wasn't stitch regulated. You do beautiful work. I serioiusly need to take a cue from you. You're getting so much done! I have a quilt show and girls camp craft this week then need to do 3 quilts for girls going to college and a photo quilt for a 50th wedding anniversary by August. I just want to sit and read a book.

  7. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the bag!!! I also love that you shared your story, your quilting is even more amazing (if that is possible) now that I know you do it all freehand - wow! That is like crazy mad skills there! I really want my own longarm, but that is a pipe dream that will have to wait awhile :)

  9. Jenny you are amazing at what all you get done and the volume you do! Your quilting is beautiful but my goodness without a SLR? Awesome! You inspire me.... I have a mid arm without a SLR and have not used it due to intimidation. I need to just do it as the old slogan goes.
I enjoy your blog, Beth in AL
