It's day 14 of my 31 Day Challenge. I started my quilting day quilting up this fun Ocean/Mermaid flannel quilt:
I did some fun water/swirly quilting on it....I thought it was very fitting for the quilt. I then added the binding before taking it off the machine and it felt sooo good taking the last quilt of Karen's quilts off!
Then life outside of quilting happened again!
.....but then
at about 5:30, I started on the bindings and I'm happy to say I FINISHED at 10:30 tonight! I was "bound and determined" and it feels soooo good, I want to cry right now, seriously!
My upper neck and back are aching from sitting at the sewing machine for hours, but it's totally worth it! Complete satisfaction!
Real quick, I want to show some pictures of how I do a quick binding.
For many bindings I do up for customers, depending on the quilt and what is will be used for, I stitch just right of the ditch. I take off my 1/4 foot and put on the larger one, and follow the edge of the binding. I've pressed the binding before sewing it on.
I really like this look. Heck...there are stitches all over the quilt, having some on the binding sort of ties it all in. It's really fast and you rarely have to worry about not catching the back.
Here's a picture of the back.
Here's a corner picture. And that's how I did most of Karen's binding's, it slick and fast!
Another time saver I do is the tuck/binding for the ends. Very fast and I think it look great!
Okay.....ready.....drum roll.....
18 of 30 Finished
I just gave myself the chills...I'm such a dork! ;o)
Oh...yes, one more thing, I'll take pictures tomorrow of the quilts in good lighting!

Congrats on being, in one fell swoop, more than half way through your goal!! (and I know that it wasn't one fell swoop, exactly, but bumping up that number from 6 to 18 is pretty cool.)
ReplyDeleteI think you'll have earned yourself a full body massage when this is all over. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing all of those quilts - I really like your binding technique, looks great.
ReplyDeleteWow! Congratulation! You are really inpriring me with your pics and writing about your great quilting!
ReplyDeleteLove to follow your blog.

Wow Jenny congratulations on getting so many quilts done. I just wanted to clear up something on your binding method- do you iron the binding in half and then sew through all layers by machine? This seems like a really quick and effective way especially if you have a lot of quilts to bind. I've done all my bindings by hand until now but I think I will try your method. Thanks for showing us the quilts!
ReplyDeleteGreat Job Jenny, keep up the good work. I am really loving reading your blog and your progress this month. It is very inspiring, and good to know life gets in the way for others too. But you are showing us that you can over come that and keep on going. Sometimes life's disturbances takes me out of the race for the day. I am so proud of you.
ReplyDeleteYou are really rockin" Congrats on all the progress you've made. The quilts are just beuatiful!
ReplyDeleteHoly tons of quilts! Yay for more than halfway now :)
ReplyDeleteI love your quilting that echoes the swirls. I love swirls, so will have to try that on my longarm.
ReplyDeleteAlso agree 100% on your binding. The hand stitched binding on quilts I've done for children and grandchildren has had to be re-stitched. So now, I machine stitch the binding so it will stand up to the wear.
I knew you could do it (and you did it on one day not 2) - yeeha - you are doing great, really great.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could guarantee that I'd catch the binding on the back if I tried sewing like this - mine would probably be all over the place
Can't wait to see what's next for the longarm quilter, and what your plans are for the quilting
You just inspired me! I've been trying to figure out what to quilt on a turtle quilt and the waves/swirls on your mermaid quilt are perfect as I just learned how to do the crescent shape.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!! You are over half-way with plenty of time to go. :)
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you! You continue to inspire me to get hopping with my projects!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm totally in awe of the beautiful work you do!!
Congrats! I know you are so glad to get that huge pile done! I am also very impressed with your stamina at getting those bindings done in one day!
ReplyDeleteWill you show us sometime how you put the bindings on with the long arm?
Thanks for the inspiration!
Woohoo! You are really on a roll! Love seeing so many examples of your good work, too!
ReplyDeleteI always do my binding by machine, too. Not only do I like the look, but it's a LOT faster, as you know. YAY!!!! So excited to see your number jump up. You've been working hard, buttercup.
ReplyDeleteHi Jenny, I have been doing a few bindings on my DSM and LA, too. I like how they look. Good job for sticking with it until they were all done! Can you tell me how wide you are cutting your binding strips? 2-1/2 or 2-1/4?
ReplyDeletei am so loving this! you are amazing and i love how perfect your binding looks! xo
ReplyDeleteSo Impressive! I'm loving watching all these quilt evolve. You're doing great!
ReplyDeleteWow! Those quilts are so amazing, love your quilting, and I also do my binding the same way! No hand binding for this lady :-)
ReplyDeleteAwesome job!!! Now come bind my quilts LOL - they look great, and you must feel great!!
ReplyDeleteWow you are amazing. I may have to try to sew the binding on with my longarm. Do you use 2 1/2 inch strips and do you use the channel lock on your machine. I think you mentioned that in a recent post. Great Job!
ReplyDeleteI love, love the swirling water. It is perfect. And your bindings look great. Like you said, everything depends on how the quilts are going to be used, etc. I would check into a chair massage at the least.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! You're ahead of schedule!
ReplyDeleteJenny how wide do you cut your binding strips for this technique?
ReplyDeleteAny tips on how to get such fantastically crisp binding corners? Your binding looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteWooohooo! I think a little celebration is in order! More than half way and it's only 13th of the month! Looking forward to see what's next, but in the mean time, get that man to give you a good shoulder rub :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Going from 6 to 18! You kicked some serious butt! I love your bindings. They are beautiful. If I could sew it on that beautifully, I would do it. I know I'd have trouble catching them on the back!
ReplyDeletePlease show us how to tuck the binding when you sew it on. That has to be my biggest problem. I love all of the quilting you have done on these. I'm excited to see what's next!
ReplyDeleteThat's how we do most of our bindings too! We love machine bindings! :)
