I'm seeing swirls!
....actually, I feel like I'm flying in an airplane and starring out the window when looking at this picture.
When doing up this quilt, I wanted to bring out the fantastic design it makes but I feel I lost it with the fabrics and colors I used. I really wasn't going for the circular design created but with my swirls that's exactly what happened. Funny how that happened!
I used double batting, warm and white with Tuscany Hobbs Wool on the top. Many have asked me why I use double batting....and this is why: I'VE COME TO THE REALIZATION I HAVE AN ADDICTION TO IT. Seriously, it's not a fun addiction to have. It makes your quilts more expensive to bat and also makes them heavier (found that out when I had to spend extra money in luggage because they were over the weight limit)!! I told myself I wasn't going to do it anymore...but so far I haven't been able to!! So there you have it, you know one of my addictions.
I thought it would be fun to use an orange with red polka dot fabric for the binding. I love the flare it gave this quilt!
This quilt is called Urban Winter and a pattern will be available soon.

This is so gorgeous Jenny! It's everything I wish I could have done on my modern peel quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out beautiful. I just love the swirl quilting!
ReplyDeleteI love your circles. I can't quilt them very well without using rulers.
ReplyDeletefantastic as usual
ReplyDeleteooooolllaaaaaaaaaaaaaalalaaaaaaaaa xoxox love this
ReplyDeleteWell, you may be addicted to double batting, but I am addicted to looking at your quilts and quilting!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAmazing. I love the double batting. So you did these swirls freehand? They are perfect. Can't imagine doing them. You're awesome and I also love the pattern.
ReplyDeleteAmazing work! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteStunning. The perfect quilting for it.
ReplyDeleteThought I was going yo have to take a Dramamine! Those circles really make that quilt sing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I am becoming addicted to double batting, too. I tried it on a small quilt once and loved the way it felt and how the quilting looked so I have continued to do this for several quilts on my home machine. I have not tried it yet on a large quilt on the long arm that I rent sometimes in the LQS. I have been thinking about it, though. I live in New England so thicker warmer quilts in the winter are a good thing ... :) Pat
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning!
ReplyDeletethe swirls are perfect. I cant believe you freehanded them though :-)
ReplyDeleteStunning!! Gosh I make little swirls on my domestic machine; and they have flat sides...lol
ReplyDeletethis is gorgeous,well done.xx
ReplyDeleteLove, Love, Love the swirls!!! So fun!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I guess you 'addiction' adds extra texture too. I have never had a customer ask for two layers of batting & I have never tried.
ReplyDeleteWonderful design and quilting. Do you have a secret how even and nice the quilting is done?
ReplyDeleteI'm not generally so big on modern quilts, but this one is so stunning I have to tell you so! I love it! ~Lynda
ReplyDeletethis is stunning.
ReplyDeleteJenny, this is wonderful! Did you do this on a domestic?
ReplyDeleteOutstanding. I thought of the swirls on top of a cone from Dairy Queen.

Wow and WOW! Absolutely stunning.
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous! I've never tried double batting, is it just to make the quilting stand out more? I do want to try wool batting, though - I've been so cold lately that cotton isn't cutting it.
ReplyDeleteThis is so stunning and inspiring!! WOW!
ReplyDeleteIt's really fabulous....I love those swirls.
ReplyDeleteit's mesmerizing! LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Is that a computerized circular swirl?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Jenny!!!! As always, your vision is genius. Seriously. The quilting just makes the design look so cool!!! LOVE!!! I have a double batt addiction too!!!! Last several quilts I have done, I have double batted. Wow, makes a huge difference in enhancing the texture of the quilting. I weighed a large client quilt when I was done quilting and it was 12 pounds!!! LOL!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I have some antique quilts that are HEAVY! I asked the ladies at my LQS how I could get that same weight, and they told me to use double batting. I haven't tried it yet because I'm not sure I'd be able to get it through my machine. I should try a little sample piece one of these days. Your quilt looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWow, Jenny, my eyes are goin' round, round, round. But it's absolutely fantastic. Love it. Are the coral/red fabs from a certain line?
ReplyDeleteThis is just stunning. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI adore the look of double batting and have used it on a crib size quilt (used wool in both layers) with very little stitching. It shrank a lot. Do densely quilted quilts with wool in them shrink less? Do you see any variances after washing when you use two different types of batting.
ReplyDeleteI am quit often disappointed with the end result of single batting. Perhaps I need to do some serious experiments.
I also wonder how judges of quilt competitions feel about adding another layer to a "quilt".
A truly beautiful quilt. Congratulations!
Beautifully done!
ReplyDeleteAgain - I LOVE your quilting!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this is absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt and the quilting looks amazing! So "easy" but so classy!
ReplyDeleteI love using double batting, makes the quilting pop so lovely! I don't generally do it as it would get to expensive but for important stuff when I have enough batting at home I do =D
I love it! I remember when you were piecing it together :). It is my new favorite!
ReplyDeleteFabulous! Love the color. Love the circles!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful texture. That quilting is the perfect choice for the patchwork
