To download pdf, click here.
Fabric Requirements:
(4) 10" x 10" focus fabric
(4) 5" x 10" background fabric
Stack focus fabric. With ruler on left side of fabric, line up the dark reference lines to top and bottom edges of stack and make your first cut (discard fabric on left).
Position ruler over fabric. Line up the dark reference lines to top and bottom edges of stack and the previous cut curve corners sit under the 5" mark on ruler (see sample above in blue circles). Make your cut. Repeat for 3 more cuts.
You will end up with (4) curves per 10" x 10" focus fabric square.
Stack the 5" x 10" background fabric pieces. Position ruler over fabric, making sure to line up the dark reference marks on top and bottom of stack and the 4" mark sits on left side of fabric stack. Make your cut.
You will end up with (4) each of two different background shapes.
Layout fabric in order to be sewed. You will have (4) of the same layouts.
Sew all pieces together.
Press from back. All seams going the same direction.
Using a larger square-up ruler, square up block to an 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" square (sample below).
Line up ruler over block so the right edge of ruler sits 1/2" over curved seam at the 1/2" mark and the 8 1/2" mark on ruler (sample in blue circles). Cut right and top side.
Rotate ruler and cut off other two sides.
Repeat for all blocks. You will end up with (4) 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" blocks. Sew blocks to form one 16 1/2" x 16 1/2" block.
